On June 19, 2020, a 35-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing KSh 194,000 from an M-Pesa shop using her deceased father's identification card.

Veronica Monthe Nthenge was accused of impersonating Cecilia Ndunge, her deceased father's sister, with the intention of defrauding.

According to Nairobi News, Nthenge allegedly stole the money and a Sh5,000 phone from the shop owner on the same day.

She had identified herself as Ndunge to the shop owner, Kideye Mohamed Hashi, on April 13 at Eastleigh, a day after she had rented his car using her deceased father's identification card.

She deposited KSh 150 into her M-Pesa account.

Hashi later discovered that Nthenge was using his M-Pesa business phone when she left his shop.

It is alleged that Nthenge transferred the money to three different phone numbers, including her deceased father's number.

She was caught on CCTV cameras leaving the shop.

Nthenge was later arrested and charged before Chief Magistrate Angelo Kithinji.
