On June 19, 2020, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani outlined plans to roll out an e-procurement system in the Budget Statement 2020/21.

The system aims to link the taxman and the registrar of companies to prevent State agency suppliers from evading tax or using unregistered firms.

The e-procurement system will also be connected to the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) to improve transparency and avoid errors.

Additionally, the system will be linked with the National Council for Persons with Disability.

The exercise is expected to take place within the next six months and be completed by the end of 2020.

According to the Treasury, the e-procurement system will provide benefits such as cost reduction, speed, transparency, accountability, and visibility.

"The Government will procure and roll out an end-to-end e-procurement system by December 2020," says the Treasury.

"The system has also been linked to other Government institutions including Kenya Revenue Authority, National Council for Persons with Disability, Registrar of Companies and IFMIS to facilitate faster verification and reporting," the Treasury further stated.
