On June 18, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta clarified his stance on his future in politics, stating that he has no intention of staying in power beyond his term in 2022.

According to the President, the Constitution of Kenya clearly outlines the term limits for the head of state, making it unnecessary for him to clarify his intentions further.

"If there is one thing Kenyans know best, it is the duration of a president's term, which has been clear since 1992 when the multi-party system was reinstated," President Kenyatta said.

He also addressed claims that he intends to become the Prime Minister after his term ends, stating that the main objective of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is to ensure that every Kenyan is treated fairly.

President Kenyatta emphasized that the BBI's primary goal is to address constitutional issues and ensure that every Kenyan is treated equally, regardless of their background or affiliation.
