Published on June 18, 2020, Novak Djokovic, the world's top-ranked tennis player, has softened his stance on the US Open, scheduled to take place in New York from August 31.
Initially, Djokovic had expressed concerns over the United States Tennis Association's decision to proceed with the event, citing the city's struggles with the coronavirus pandemic.
However, in a recent interview with Eurosport's Tennis Legends podcast, Djokovic appeared more positive, stating, 'I'm extremely happy and excited to see that all the tournaments, especially Grand Slams, are organising their events.'
He acknowledged that many players, including himself, had been skeptical about the US Open's chances of going ahead, but welcomed the opportunity for players to compete.
Despite the stringent health protocols in place, including a ban on South American players, Djokovic expressed hope that some restrictions would be eased before the tournament begins.
His comments come as other top players, such as Rafael Nadal and Ashleigh Barty, have also expressed reservations about participating in the US Open.
