On June 17, 2020, Kenya secured a significant victory in the UN Security Council elections, winning the Africa seat with a total of 129 votes.
Kenya's win came after a closely contested second round of voting, where the country outpaced Djibouti with 129 votes to 62.
Earlier, in the first round of voting on June 16, 2020, Kenya had secured 113 votes, while Djibouti garnered 78 votes. However, the rules of the election required a country to secure at least two-thirds of the votes to win, which in this case meant obtaining at least 128 votes.
