As the country prepares for the gradual reopening of schools from September, Education CS George Magoha has announced that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will take place between February and March 2021.

However, Magoha emphasized that the exact months are subject to change depending on the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

According to Magoha, officials from the ministry have already begun assessing schools to determine the necessary measures to ensure a safe reopening. He stated, "We want to go and check at what is precisely necessary so that we can open our schools and ensure that our children are safe. And in that regard, we have started by thinking of the most important thing that is the health and safety of our children."

Magoha highlighted the challenge of maintaining social and physical distance in schools, given the high number of students per class. He suggested that schools should have enough water supply, and where this is not possible, hand sanitizers can be used.
