On June 18, 2020, Kenya Films Classification Board Boss Ezekiel Mutua sparked controversy when he claimed that Kamba musicians were responsible for the rise in teenage pregnancy cases in Machakos County.

Popular Benga artist Alex Kasau Katombi, who was mentioned in the statement, has fired back at Mutua, stating that he doesn't hail from Machakos and that his name has nothing to do with the pregnancies.

According to a recent report, over 4000 school-going teenagers have been impregnated in Machakos County since the outbreak of the novel-coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Responding to Mutua's claims, Katombi stated, “Kwanza kwetu sio Machakos, second nitawa katombi na mimi sio mswahili na katombi ama kutomba sio matusi kikamba.. utindaa ulikiliile band sya akamba niki.. we struggled to make these names known.. hizi nyimbo bado ndio zimefanya watoto pregnant kisumu, siaya, nairobi and the whole country? Kana wi director wausisya mbathi sya kikamba pekee? Kimena, kiweu na kiima. Typical mkamba. Shame on you”.
