New Female-Driven Taxi Service Exclusively Serves Women and Children ¶
June 18, 2020
Women in Nairobi, Kenya, now have a safer and more convenient way to travel with the introduction of An Nisa Taxi, an all-female cab service designed to cater to the needs of women and children.
Launched in 2018 by founder and owner Mehnaz Sarwar, An Nisa Taxi offers tailored services, including taking women home after a night out, dropping off children at school, and providing a safe and secure ride to work.
The service is exclusively for women and children, with female drivers who are trained to provide a safe and comfortable experience for their clients.
According to Sarwar, the idea behind An Nisa Taxi was to create a service that would provide women with a sense of security and peace of mind when using a taxi service.
“An Nisa stands for women in Arabic. It is not good for a woman to worry about her safety or an escape route when she is in a car with a man,” Sarwar said.
With the rise of taxi apps in Nairobi, An Nisa Taxi aims to provide a safer and more convenient alternative for women and children, while also providing employment opportunities for female drivers.
On social media, women have hailed the taxi service as a relief from male-centric taxi services, with many expressing their gratitude for the safe and convenient option.
Just found out that there's a fairly new cab service in Nairobi called Annisa that serves only women and children. For us who prefer female drivers, this is definitely a win (This is not a sponsored ad) — Manzi wa Nairobi (@City_girllll) June 17, 2020
