On Thursday, Deputy President William Ruto launched a youth empowerment program targeting 5,000 youth in Nairobi's informal settlements, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at his Karen residence, Dr. Ruto emphasized the need for collective support to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, which has disrupted businesses and led to job cuts.

He noted that the government had allocated a Sh57 billion stimulus package to cushion the economy, but more needed to be done to support those affected.

“In addition to government aid, every Kenyan has an opportunity to help those affected because we cannot reach out to everyone,” Dr. Ruto said.

The Deputy President also announced plans to employ 10,000 youth in major towns under the Kazi Mtaani Programme to ensure they have incomes.

He was accompanied by MPs Nixon Korir, John Kiarie, and James Gakuya, who expressed their support for the initiative.

Dr. Ruto urged Kenyans to strictly observe the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health to curb the virus and to focus on the country's economic revival by dedicating their energy to their businesses and other productive activities.

He also asked Kenyans to shun politics during this challenging time and to come together to support those affected by the pandemic.
