Kenya Records Highest Number of Covid-19 Deaths in a Day

On June 18, 2020, Kenya set a new record with the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in a single day. A total of 213 people tested positive for the novel Coronavirus from 6,024 samples, while 10 deaths were also recorded.

According to Health Ministry CAS Dr. Rashid Aman, the 10 additional fatalities bring the total number of fatalities recorded in the country to 117. However, he also announced that 106 more patients had been discharged after fully recovering from the killer disease, raising the number of recoveries to 1459.

The new cases are distributed across the country as follows:

  • Nairobi (136)
  • Mombasa (32)
  • Kajaido (13)
  • Kiambu (7)
  • Busia (5)
  • Nakuru (4)
  • Machakos (4)
  • Garissa (3)
  • Isiolo (3)
  • Taita Taveta (2)
  • Kitui (1)
  • Migori (1)
  • Narok (1)
  • Embu (1)

Of the 136 cases in Nairobi, the distribution is as follows:

  • Dagoretti North (36)
  • Westlands (25)
  • Kamukunji (17)
  • Kibra (13)
  • Makadara (11)
  • Starehe (8)
  • Langata (9)
  • Kasarani (6)
  • Embakasi East (4)
  • Embakasi North (3)
  • Ruaraka (3)
  • Embakasi Central (1)

Similarly, in Mombasa, the 32 cases are distributed in Mvita (20), Likoni (5), Kisauni (5), and Changamwe (2).
