On Wednesday night in Kyale, Makueni County, a shocking incident of filicide unfolded, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak in its wake.

According to authorities, the 35-year-old suspect, Nicholas Katua, descended upon his elderly father with arrows, killing him instantly. The brutal attack was allegedly sparked by a long-standing land dispute between the two families.

“Kimuli Julius was attacked and killed by his own son. The attacker used a bow and arrow and shot him on his stomach killing him on the spot,” said Makueni County Commander Joseph Ole Naipeiyan.

Assistant Chief Shadrack Musembi, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, confirmed that the killings and burning of family property were directly linked to the disputed land issue.

“The deceased had two wives. Scuffles have been arising on the method to use to sub-divide land amongst children of both families. Before the murder, one of the sons rewarded himself with a portion of the land without consulting others, something that sparked instant uproar,” said Musembi.

The suspect also attacked his younger stepbrother, Mutie Kimula, 21, with a machete, leaving him severely injured. The victim was rushed to Makindu sub-county hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Police are still on the hunt for the suspect, who managed to escape the scene after setting his father's body ablaze.
