Kenya has seen a significant surge in coronavirus cases, with 213 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours.

According to Rashid Aman, the acting Director-General of Health, the new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases to 4257. Of these, 198 are Kenyan nationals, while 15 are foreigners.

Mr. Aman attributed the high number of cases to a large number of samples being tested, with 6,024 samples analyzed in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of samples tested since the outbreak began.

Men are more likely to be infected with the virus, with 161 cases reported among men, compared to 62 cases among women.

Additionally, people with underlying health conditions, such as HIV, are at a higher risk of being infected with the virus.

The surge in cases has been particularly notable in Nairobi and Mombasa, with both counties reporting a high number of cases.
