Kenya's national exams, KCSE and KCPE, are likely to be postponed to April 2021, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha.
Speaking before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19 on June 18, 2020, Prof. Magoha stated that the exams may be pushed to April 2021 if schools do not reopen by September 2020.
Prof. Magoha expressed concerns that the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country may prevent schools from reopening as planned.
As a contingency plan, the ministry may merge the 2020 exams with those scheduled for 2021 if schools cannot be reopened for the administration of the exams by April 2021.
Senators, led by Committee Chairman and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, advised the ministry to consider writing off the current academic year due to COVID-19 disruptions.
