On June 18, 2020, Deputy President William Ruto kicked off a campaign to cushion Nairobi's youth from the economic effects of Covid-19, visiting Dagoretti to donate essential equipment.

Among the donated items were water tanks, washing machines, motorbikes, and car washing equipment, aimed at creating jobs for the youths in the area.

According to Ruto, the campaign, set to run for three months, targets approximately 5,000 youths in Nairobi, with donations scheduled to take place on a weekly basis due to social distancing requirements.

"We have met here today with my friends and sponsors to contribute to the public. This is the first round. Next week will have another donation, the following week will also be the same and the others too," Ruto stated.

He commended the government's stimulus program initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta to mitigate the effects of the pandemic and called upon well-wishers to donate to vulnerable members of society.

Additionally, Ruto praised the Kazi Mtaani program, which aims to employ youths in major towns nationwide, and noted that the Sh3.2 trillion 2020/21 national budget includes funds to boost this initiative.
