Evariste Ndayishimiye Sworn in as New President of Burundi

On June 18, 2020, thousands of Burundians gathered in the Ingoma stadium in Gitega to witness the inauguration of Evariste Ndayishimiye as the new President of Burundi.

Just two weeks after the sudden death of President Pierre Nkurunziza, Ndayishimiye was sworn in as the new head of state, marking a new era for the East African nation.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Tanzanian Vice President Samia Suluhu and former President Jakaya Kikwete, who came to show their support for the new President.

In his inaugural address, Ndayishimiye pledged to protect the country's constitution, uphold national unity, and defend its borders. He also promised to provide justice and equality for all citizens.

Burundi held its general elections on May 20, 2020, in which Ndayishimiye emerged victorious.
