On June 16, 2020, two communities in Narok North clashed, leaving scores injured, in a dispute that has been brewing for weeks.

The trouble started when one community failed to return 18 stolen heads of cattle, as per an ultimatum issued by the other community. The same community had also stolen six heads of cattle from a member of the other community, prompting retaliation.

Narok North Sub County Police Commander Fredrick Siundu said that security patrols have been beefed up to restore law and order, and several contingents of security personnel have been dispatched to the area.

Speaking to the press, Siundu said, "We are not able to ascertain the number of casualties because both communities are known to evacuate their injured to a safe haven in secrecy thus making it difficult to know the number."

Violent clashes between the Maasai and Kipsigis communities have been a recurring issue in Narok, with recent incidents reported in Olposimoru, Olooruasi, and Ololoipangi areas.

Committee on Peace Building National Peace, led by its chair Mr. Francis Ole Kaparo, visited Narok South to seek a lasting solution to the problem.
