Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has expressed concerns over the possibility of postponing this year's KCSE and KCPE exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19 on June 18, 2020, Prof. Magoha stated that the exams may be conducted in April 2021 if schools reopen by September. However, he noted that there is a possibility that schools might not reopen in September as intended due to the rising number of coronavirus cases.
“We are looking at the calendar at what time we can open schools and do exams, if we opened in September we might do exams in April, beyond that it won’t be feasible to do the exams,” said Magoha.
Prof. Magoha also warned that if the national exams won’t be done by April 2021, “then we must be prepared for what I don’t want to say at the moment.”
