Kenya Extends Restaurant Operating Hours Amid COVID-19 ¶
On June 16, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced extended operating hours for restaurants, allowing them to stay open until 7.30pm.
During the daily coronavirus briefing, Mr Kagwe emphasized that bars remain closed, and eateries must adhere to strict guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These measures include checking the temperatures of customers, restricting access to those with fever symptoms, and maintaining social distancing by placing tables at least 1.5 metres apart.
Restaurants are also required to limit the number of patrons per table to four per 10 square metres and ensure that all workers are tested for COVID-19 to reduce the risk of transmission.
According to Mr Kagwe, restaurant workers who have been tested will not need to undergo testing again within 14 days, unless the restaurant fails to follow protocols or a person shows symptoms of the disease.
