Published on June 18, 2020, the government has extended restaurants' operating hours to 7.30pm in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the decision, citing an assessment of compliance levels by restaurants for COVID-19 protocols.

"With this extension, the restaurants will be required to continue to adhere to the protocols set out," Kagwe said.

Kenya has reported 133 new COVID-19 cases, including a 13-year-old child and a 90-year-old, bringing the total infections tally to 3,860 by June 16.

Forty patients were discharged from various health facilities countrywide, while the death toll rose to 105 after one more patient succumbed.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to announce new measures on July 6, after receiving reports from various government agencies and stakeholders.
