On June 17, 2020, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that China would exempt some African countries from repaying zero-interest rate loans due at the end of 2020, as reported by state television.
According to President Xi, China will further extend loan payment forbearance for some countries, including African nations, under the framework of the China-Africa cooperation forum.
Additionally, President Xi stated that China would give priority to African countries once COVID-19 vaccines are ready for use.
