Residents of Kinoo Demand Justice from Kenya Power ¶
June 18, 2020
Residents of Kinoo in Kiambu County are up in arms with Kenya Power over an alleged scam involving a transformer. The residents claim that the company asked them to raise money for a new transformer after the initial one failed, leaving them without power for over 10 days.
According to a resident who spoke to Nyakundi Report, their efforts to reach out to Kenya Power demanding to have the electricity fixed have been met with resistance. The company only promised to fix the issue, but failed to deliver.
The resident's plea to Kenya Power is a scathing indictment of the company's handling of the situation. 'This is a total mess to residents of KINOO/MUTHIGA power failure in a transformer (REF NO: 5608562),' they wrote. 'We have had no power for the last 10 days at this Area location. All our efforts trying to reach out to Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) both Sub-Office, County Region-Office, & Head-Office have not worked but only to give us reference number and false hope promising to work out till to date.'
The resident is demanding that the DCI investigate the matter, citing corruption and a lack of accountability at the Sub-office level. 'The Sub-office is totally corrupt a puzzle that we need it resolved and get answers regarding this matter,' they wrote.
The situation has led to a deterioration of hygiene in the area, with residents forced to buy water and risk a potential cholera outbreak. 'Why is KPLC Kikuyu constituent Misbehaving.?' the resident asked. 'Why are they punishing innocent people using uncouth means.?'
