Kenya's State House has been hit by a growing Covid-19 outbreak, with 16 staff members testing positive for the virus as of June 18, 2020.
According to People Daily, a Kenyatta-owned publication, four of the infected staff members reside within the State House complex, while the remaining 12 live outside.
'We have so far 16 cases that have turned positive from the virus with four of us living within the compound and the rest outside,' said a source.
The outbreak has prompted the government to introduce stricter access protocols at State House, including reducing the number of engagements at the complex to minimize the risk of further spread.
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena confirmed that families and close contacts of the affected employees had been traced and were being attended to.
The infected staff members have been admitted to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Kiambu county for treatment.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family are reportedly safe and free from the virus, according to Dena.
