Published on June 18, 2020, Nairobi has moved up two places to rank 95 in the world's most expensive cities for expatriates, according to Mercer's Cost of Living Survey.
The Kenyan capital city has seen its purchasing power rise significantly after the Kenyan shilling's depreciation since the country confirmed its first Coronavirus case on March 12.
"New York City is used as the base city for all comparisons and currency movements are measured against the US dollar," Mercer said of its rankings.
According to the survey, Nairobi is the 15th most expensive city in Africa, with the local currency depreciating 3.9 percent since the country confirmed its first Coronavirus case.
Chad's capital, Ndjamena, is the most expensive city in Africa, ranking 15th globally, while Tunis is the cheapest city in Africa and globally.
