On June 2, President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga's entourage was captured on CCTV footage while inspecting walkways being done by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) along Kenyatta Avenue.

Two security employees attached to Sarova Stanley hotel, Janet Magoma Ayonga and Patrick Rading Ambogo, have been charged with intercepting the CCTV footage intentionally and without authority.

According to the court, the two employees appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi and denied the charge.

Lawyer Danstan Omari, representing the two employees, told the court that the only complaint can be the hotel and not the state, and that the presidential entourage did not have the presidential standards or the coat of arms nor police sirens.

“Is it the first time people are recording president Uhuru?” Omari posed.

Omari also demanded that President Kenyatta and Raila record statements so that they can be cross-examined.

The court ordered the two employees to deposit cash bail of Ksh10,000 each to secure their release. The case will be mentioned on July 2 for further directions.
