On June 17, 2020, Chama Cha Mashinani Leader Isaac Rutto made headlines when he stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta was too young to retire in 2022. This statement came just hours after Jubilee and Chama Cha Mashinani signed a post-poll cooperation agreement to work together towards the 2022 elections.
The agreement was also signed by the Wiper Party, whose leader Kalonzo Musyoka was present. Speaking at the ruling party's headquarters, Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe said the signing of the agreement between Wiper and CCM would pave the way for a joint coalition with major parties.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's commitment to the unity of the republic was also emphasized by Rutto, who stated, 'President Uhuru is committed to the unity of the republic. We fully support this agenda as a party. In fact, the president is too young to retire in 2022.'
As the country gears up for the 2022 elections, it remains to be seen how this cooperation agreement will shape the political landscape.
