David Luiz's contract is on the verge of running out at the Emirates, with a new deal yet to be agreed. The Brazilian centre back took full responsibility for Arsenal's crushing 3-0 defeat at Manchester City on June 17, 2020.
Luiz was sent off early in the second half after bringing down Riyad Mahrez in the penalty area, a decision that summed up his error-strewn return to action.
He was responsible for City's first goal, as a misjudged ball allowed Raheem Sterling in behind to power a shot past Bernd Leno, who had made a string of crucial saves to keep the match level earlier.
Luiz's sending off was a turning point in the match, and he was bold enough to admit his role in the crushing defeat.
"It's my fault," the 33-year-old said. "The team did well, especially with 10 men. The coach is amazing, all the players are amazing, it was my fault," he said after the game.
Luiz's contract runs out in one month, but he insisted coach Mikel Arteta still had plans for him.
"I want to be here. The coach knows. He wants me to stay," Luiz said.
Arteta, however, played down Luiz's howlers, as he believes the best is yet to come from him.
"My opinion has not changed from the moment I joined the team and it won't change because of a difficult performance tonight," Arteta said.
