Published on June 18, 2020, 300,000 Kenyans have expressed interest in buying 228 affordable housing units in Ngara, Nairobi.

The units, constructed by China State Construction Engineering, are part of the 1,370 currently under construction at the 7.9-acre site formerly owned by the government.

According to Charles Hinga, the Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary, the allocation will be done according to the Constitution, based on gender equity and diversity.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with proven ability to buy via a transparent and accountable manner.

"The government will be allocating the completed houses in Park Road, Ngara," Hinga said.

The units are in three different types: one-bedroomed units worth Sh1 million, two-bedroomed units worth Sh2 million, and three-bedroomed units worth Sh3 million.

Beneficiaries unable to settle the purchase price on the spot will have to pay a 10 percent deposit with the rest paid for the next 25 years under a rent-to-own arrangement.
