On June 17, 2020, Serena Williams announced her participation in the 2020 US Open, scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 13 at the National Tennis Center in New York.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held without spectators, and players will be tested for the virus upon arrival and at least once a week thereafter.
USTA officials have vowed to ensure a safe environment for players, with top men's stars like Novak Djokovic expressing concerns about the staging of the event.
"I really can't wait to return to the US Open 2020," Serena Williams said in a video message. "I think the USTA is going to do a really good job of ensuring everyone is going to be safe. This is crazy. I'm excited."
The US Open will be the first Grand Slam event since the pandemic forced the cancellation of Wimbledon and postponement of the French Open.
