Published on June 17, 2020, a man from the Ruiri area in Meru County was left embarrassed after being fined two goats as compensation for staying with his in-laws.
According to elders, the man committed a grave mistake by violating community customs and traditions by staying with his in-laws.
It is reported that the man had been away from home for a long time due to his work, and his in-laws had been waiting for him to visit.
However, when he finally arrived, he was met with a surprise as his in-laws demanded that he pay a fine of two goats as compensation for staying with them.
The elders were quoted as saying, "Our customs and traditions do not allow a married man to stay with his in-laws. It is a disrespect to his parents and a breach of family honor. If you want to stay, find a hotel and come back when the rain stops."
The man was reportedly not pleased with the elders' decision and argued with them.
However, he was eventually forced to pay the fine of KSh 600, which was used to buy two goats that were then given to his in-laws.
The incident has left many people in the community shocked and talking.
