The Premier League is set to resume play on Wednesday after a 100-day hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Manchester City's match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium being the main event.

Coronavirus restrictions mean that the matches will be played behind closed doors, but football-starved fans will be able to catch 92 televised games in less than six weeks.

With Liverpool holding a 25-point lead at the top of the table, they could be crowned champions as early as Sunday if City lose to Arsenal.

However, the battle for Champions League places next season and to avoid relegation are far more closely contested.

Relegation-threatened Aston Villa will kick off the restart when they host European hopefuls Sheffield United.

Before the matches, there will be a minute's silence in memory of those who have died from COVID-19, with over 41,000 lives claimed in Britain.

Three of the four managers to lead their sides on Wednesday have been touched by the virus, with Aston Villa boss Dean Smith's father and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's mother both passing away.

Former Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta returns to the Etihad for the first time as Arsenal manager, three months after his positive test for coronavirus hastened the season shutdown.
