June 17, 2020 - The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has introduced new guidelines to empower regional directors to deploy primary and secondary school heads, their deputies, and other administrators.
The move aims to promote efficiency in the appointment and deployment of administrators to public schools, according to TSC boss Nancy Macharia.
Under the new regulations, county directors will identify available administrative vacancies, which will then be advertised by the head office. The head office will also shortlist candidates and send the lists to respective counties.
Regional directors will conduct interviews for selected candidates in collaboration with county directors and then appoint and deploy successful candidates.
The guidelines also outline the staffing requirements for schools, including the number of teachers and administrators needed for each school.
Meanwhile, teachers in private schools are suffering due to the failure of their employers to pay them salaries since March, following the closure of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kenya National Union of Private Schools Teachers (KNUPST) Secretary-General Dan Khasiani has called on the government to provide a stimulus package for the teachers, as private schools have appealed to the government to provide grants to sustain the wage bill of their teaching and non-teaching staff.
