On June 17, 2020, Chinese President Xi Jinping made history by chairing the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 in Beijing, marking a significant moment in the global fight against the pandemic.
The summit, jointly proposed by China, South Africa, the African Union (AU), and Senegal, brought together leaders from across the continent, including members of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government, rotating chairs of major African sub-regional organizations, and the chairperson of the AU Commission.
Special guests at the meeting included the secretary-general of the United Nations and the director-general of the World Health Organization, underscoring the international cooperation and solidarity in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.
