Kenyan Female Celebrity Makes History with Vogue Challenge

On June 17, 2020, Kenyan radio personality Kalekye Mumo made history when her unique Vogue challenge photos were recognized internationally by CNN.

As part of the #VogueChallenge, Mumo, a 44-year-old media personality, took to social media to showcase her creativity and talent. She posted a photo of herself wearing a red-laced dress with fancy neck ripples and a belt, looking like a no-nonsense boss lady.

Her photo caught the attention of CNN, which picked her cover and acknowledged her participation in the challenge as one of the many people in the world taking up the #VogueChallenge to promote diversity and show black culture.

Speaking to CNN, Mumo divulged her hopes for the fashion industry, stating, 'I did this challenge to not only use my voice but use my face to show the beautiful, talented black people across the world, let alone Africa and Kenya that could grace the magazine with finesse. My hope is that the fashion industry will begin to embrace black faces of all shapes and sizes – especially since I am a fabulous plus-size woman.'

Mumo's recognition by CNN is a testament to her hard work and dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the fashion industry.
