David Migwi Kariuki, a suspect in the killing of an unidentified woman in Umoja, Nairobi, has been charged with murder. He is being held in a police cell due to fear of Covid-19 spread.

The proceedings were held virtually, with the judge ruling that Migwi be held at the cells pending a hearing on July 23 on his bail application. The prosecution opposed the release of the suspect, stating that they are still looking for more suspects in connection with the murder.

Two other suspects, Nancy Wanja Njuguna and Nicholas Kimanthi, were charged with an offence of accessory after the act to murder before a Milimani Court, Nairobi. They were granted a cash bail of Sh100,000 or a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of the same amount.

The case will be mentioned on July 1. The woman's body was found mutilated and dumped at Tumaini Primary in Umoja on May 31. Police said the suspect had rented a house in Amani Court of Umoja and was evicted from his house by the landlord after failing to pay April rent.

Police are yet to identify the woman and determine the motive of the murder. The same suspect is believed to have committed other murders, including the killing of Penina Wairimu Njeri, whose body parts were found at Tumaini while the torso was recovered along Landhies road near country bus on April 29, 2019.
