On June 17, 2020, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir came to the aid of 120 Kenyan students stranded in Sudan due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to parents of some of the students at the Constituency CDF offices at Sega, Nassir stated that he had contributed Ksh1 million to ensure their safe return back to the country.

He added that he had contacted the embassy as well as the national carrier Kenya Airways to plan on how the students would be evacuated.

"They have reduced the rate to $490 (49,000) per person and we are hoping the figure goes lower," Nassir stated.

The MP made arrangements for the students to be flown directly to Mombasa because most of them were from the Coastal region.

He also advised the students to get tested for Covid-19 before jetting back and to self-quarantine once they got into the country.

"Majority of these students are out on sponsorship so I have contributed Ksh 1 million and I believe the county government will chip in as well," he added.
