On June 17, 2020, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko took to social media to sympathize with a Voi police commander who had been involved in his arrest in December 2019.

According to reports, the police commander, Mureithi, had handcuffed Sonko during his arrest, which was deemed irregular by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Sonko offered to assist Mureithi in settling a child support debt of Ksh. 300,000, which had been awarded by the children's court.

But what's even more astonishing is that Sonko had allegedly hired a woman to harass Mureithi for failing to pay child support, and then offered to pay her the amount instead.

Robert Alai, a Kenyan social media personality, reacted to the situation, saying, 'Sonko organises for the police officer who arrested him to be humiliated by a lover demanding Ksh 300,000 then offers to pay the woman. Basically he pays the woman he hired to humiliate the police officer. Just sad!!'

Sonko's post on social media read, 'THE VOI BASE COMMANDER WHO HANDCUFFED ME BECOMES A DEAD BEAT DAD... I do not support domestic violence. I condemn the use of violence in any relationship but pole sana my friend Mr. Mureithi...'

The officer is yet to respond to Sonko's offer.
