Kenya: Ambani - Why the Mad Rush to Get Married During Pandemic? ¶
Published on June 17, 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought out the best and worst in people, with some couples rushing to get married due to the uncertainty of the current situation.
Registrar-General Mary Njuya announced that the Attorneys General office at Sheria House suspended all marriage services until further notice, citing the high number of clients.
Before the pandemic, couples were already showing signs of aggressiveness in wanting to formalize their union, despite the government's efforts to fight the spread of coronavirus by banning gatherings and restricting movement.
Some couples decided to go ahead and tie the knot without the presence of their relatives and only have a few witnesses and the pastor, making the mind wonder what these couples know that others don't.
Is it that due to the physical and social distancing rule, couples dating have realized that they cannot maintain the distancing required by the government?
Author Ambani hopes that those rushing to tie the knot are not doing it just due to the uncertainty of the current situation, but rather as a lifelong commitment that should not be rushed into.
Even before the pandemic, no one knew what the future would be like, and the decision made by Sheria House to halt all marriage services is a blessing in disguise, allowing couples to see how they relate to each other during challenging times.
