Kenya's Ministry of Health has attributed the country's high Covid-19 numbers to citizens' non-adherence to health measures, with 184 new cases recorded on Wednesday, the highest since the first case on March 13.

According to Dr. Rashid Aman, Chief Administrative Secretary, the rise in cases is a clear indication that community transmission is well established within the country.

Dr. Aman warned that the situation is heading towards a 'danger zone' and appealed to Kenyans to observe the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health, including wearing masks, social distancing, and staying at home.

He emphasized that the measures are not meant to police citizens but to protect them from the spread of the virus.

Dr. Aman's warning comes as a spot check by the Nation revealed that many markets, hotels, and matatu operators are not adhering to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe had earlier warned Kenyans not to buy from traders who are not observing the measures or eat from restaurants breaking the rules.

On Wednesday, the country recorded 184 positive cases, bringing the case-load to 4,044, out of 2,518 samples tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative samples to 124,474.
