On June 17, 2020, the National Assembly witnessed a significant shake-up as four Members of Parliament allied to Deputy President William Ruto's camp were formally de-whipped from various committees.
The affected MPs include Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Catherine Waruguru (Laikipia), Cornelly Serem (Aldai), and Joyce Chepkoech Korir (Bomet).
According to a letter seen by Citizen Digital, New Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo MP) notified Speaker Justin Muturi of the removal of the four from the committees.
Mr. Kuria lost his membership on the Transport, Public Works and Housing Committee, while Ms. Waruguru was discharged from the Committee on Members Services and Facilities.
Mr. Serem was kicked out of the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee, and Ms. Korir lost her seat on the Labour and Social Welfare Committee.
It is worth noting that this move is part of Jubilee Party leader President Uhuru's efforts to regain control of the party by kicking out DP Ruto's allies from key positions in both the Houses of Parliament.
