On May 13, 2020, Joe Aspinall's life took a devastating turn when he was admitted to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with a diagnosis of blood cancer.

Just weeks after moving to the United States on a scholarship to play for the Coastal Bend College soccer team in Texas, Joe's condition rapidly worsened, and he was transferred to the intensive care unit in early June.

Tragically, Joe passed away surrounded by his family, including his parents, sister, and brother, who had returned to the UK with him just before the lockdown.

According to his father, Brendan, a former professional player, Joe's condition was caused by a haematological malignancy (blood cancer) that led to blood clots in his spleen and fatally, his lungs.

Joe's family and friends are mourning the loss of a talented young footballer who had his whole life ahead of him.
