IT Officers Charged for Leaking CCTV Footage of President Uhuru Kenyatta

On June 17, 2020, two IT officers, Patrick Ambongo and Janet Ayonga, were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts for leaking a CCTV footage of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga in Nairobi CBD at night.

The CCTV footage, captured on June 2, 2020, showed the President and Raila Odinga on a night mission, inspecting road rehabilitation works in the CBD.

According to the charge sheet, on June 2, 2020, at around 2020 hours, Ambongo and Ayonga jointly and intentionally intercepted a security CCTV footage capturing the President's entourage along Kenyatta Avenue without authorization.

They were arrested on June 6 and released on Ksh10,000 cash bail each on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

Denying the charge, the two IT officers were charged with an unauthorized interception of a computer data contrary to section 17 (1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act.
