As a single dad and chief revenue officer in a technology company, I've always tried to apply my management skills to my home life. But with five kids and four parents living together, the pandemic has turned our household into a complex experiment in parenting.
My daughters, Amalia, Fiona, and Macy, and my stepson, Tanner, have been adjusting to a new reality of remote learning, TikTok, and constant supervision. My husband, Mark, and I have been trying to set boundaries and rules, but it's been a challenge to balance our individual needs and find common ground.
One of the biggest issues we've faced is the lack of personal space. With everyone living together, it's hard to find time alone or quiet time. My daughters have been struggling with the constant supervision, and my son has been feeling like he's being treated like a kid again.
But despite the challenges, we've also seen some positive changes. We've learned to communicate more effectively and to listen to each other's concerns. We've also discovered new ways to have fun together, like playing games and watching movies.
As I reflect on our experience, I realize that the pandemic has been a catalyst for growth and change in our family. We've learned to be more patient, more understanding, and more empathetic towards each other. And while it's been a difficult journey, I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow together.
