On June 2, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga were spotted touring Nairobi's Central Business District at night, a moment captured on CCTV footage.
However, the footage was leaked online by two IT officers, Patrick Rading Ambogo and Janet Magoma Ayonga, who are now facing charges for their actions.
According to the charge sheet, the duo will be charged with an unauthorized interception of computer data, contrary to section 17 (1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act.
Police stated that the officers committed the crime on June 2, at approximately 8:20 pm, when they intercepted the security footage capturing the head of state's entourage along Kenyatta Avenue.
The two officers were arrested on June 6 and were released on bail, with their case set to be presented at the Milimani Law Courts.
