On June 17, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a passionate plea to the international community to support Kenya's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Speaking during a virtual campaign meeting with permanent representatives of various countries to the United Nations, President Kenyatta emphasized that a vote for Kenya is a vote for global peace, solidarity, and multilateralism.

Kenya is the African Union-endorsed candidate for the non-permanent seat on the security council to represent Eastern Africa, vying against the Republic of Djibouti. President Kenyatta highlighted Kenya's track record of democracy, respect for human rights, and solidarity, urging the representatives to vote for the country based on its strong credentials.

He also emphasized Kenya's experience as the host nation of UN-Habitat and UNEP global headquarters, which he said places the country in an advantageous position to champion the world's sustainable development agenda. President Kenyatta also assured the representatives that if elected, Kenya will use its privileged position to advance a pan-Africanist agenda for peace, multilateralism, and global solidarity.

Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo also urged the representatives to vote for Kenya, saying the country seeks to join the Security Council to contribute positively to global peace and security. The New York-based envoys affirmed their support for Kenya's candidature, citing the country's impressive track record as an able and dependable partner.
