On June 13, 2020, Gertrude's Children Hospital management communicated to the family of Brian Kimani Njoroge that they would release the body for burial, but under one condition: the bill and its clearance would be put on hold until two weeks after the burial.

The family of Brian Kimani Njoroge had been fighting to have the body released for burial after the 13-year-old passed away while undergoing treatment for Leukaemia at the hospital.

Brian Kimani had been undergoing treatment for five and a half months before he passed away, leaving his family with a Sh17.8 million hospital bill.

At the time of the mock burial on March 11, the bill had dropped to Sh11.9 million after the hospital waived off Sh1.5 million and the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) settled Sh668,000.

However, Gertrude's Children Hospital insisted on withholding the body until the family found a way to settle the Sh11.9 million bill accrued following the treatment Brian received at the facility.

After months of negotiations, the hospital management finally released the body on condition that the requirement on clearance of the bill would be put on hold until two weeks after the burial.

The body has been moved to the Chiromo mortuary awaiting burial.
