On June 17, 2020, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the Kitui County Government, citing escalating rifts between her and the County Assembly Members.

The governor's party, NARK, called on the President to initiate the process of dissolving the county government, citing the prolonged leadership crisis that has derailed development agendas and denied residents their rights.

According to NARK officials, led by Chairman Miltonic Kitute, the County Assembly has been sabotaging Governor Ngilu's administration through rejection or delay of budgets, rejection of nominees for county posts, and refusal to pass critical bills.

Kitute stated, 'It is crystal clear that the County Assembly is hell bent on frustrating Governor Ngilu's efforts to serve Kitui electorate and it must be stopped for the sake of saving Kitui from maladministration.'

Ngilu had previously accused Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka of engineering the endless wrangles between her and the county lawmakers, who rejected her six nominees to the county public service board after delaying the supplementary budget approval.
