Published on June 17, 2020, Safaricom customers have shown remarkable generosity through the Bonga For Good initiative, donating a total of KSh 330 million in the past two months.

Over 600,000 customers took part in the initiative, redeeming or transferring Bonga points worth approximately KSh 330 million. This remarkable feat was achieved through the Bonga For Good campaign, which was launched on April 3rd to help customers access essential goods during the pandemic.

Under the initiative, the value of points was raised to 30 cents per point, allowing customers to access essential goods such as household items, food, solar lighting equipment, and entertainment devices at 40,000 Lipa Na Mpesa outlets.

While the Bonga for Good campaign ended on June 4th, Safaricom customers will still be able to redeem points for goods and services at KSh 20 cents per point, a permanent feature of the loyalty scheme.

“Even as Bonga for Good comes to an end, we are cognizant that a lot of Kenyans still need to access essential goods and services, that is why [the] redemption of points at Lipa Na M-PESA merchants will remain a permanent feature of our loyalty scheme,” reads a Safaricom statement.
