On June 16, 2020, Miguna Miguna, a deported lawyer, revoked the oath he administered to Raila Odinga two years ago, declaring him an ordinary citizen.
The oath was administered on January 30, 2018, at Nairobi's Uhuru Park, following a disputed August 2017 General Election that led to a bitter fallout between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
According to Miguna, he was revoking the oath as the Commissioner of Oaths who administered it, stating, "By powers vested on me as the Commissioner of Oaths who administered the Oath of Office of the People's President on Raila Amolo Odinga, I, Miguna Miguna, hereby revoke that Oath and declare Raila to be an ordinary citizen. Dated at the City of Toronto, on Tuesday, June 16,"
