On June 17, 2020, Bayern Munich was crowned German champions for the 30th time in the club's history, securing an eighth straight Bundesliga title.

One of the key players behind this success is Alphonso Davies, a 19-year-old Canadian who joined Bayern in 2018 from Vancouver Whitecaps for a record-breaking $13 million fee.

Initially, Davies played as a left winger but made his first Bundesliga start as a left-back in October 2019, after Lucas Hernandez suffered an ankle injury.

Since then, Davies has made the position his own, using his exceptional speed to cover defensive holes and launch counter-attacks.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic praised Davies, saying, 'We can no longer imagine the team without him.'

Thomas Mueller has nicknamed Davies 'Bayern's Road Runner' due to his incredible speed, which he demonstrated by clocking 36.51 km/h in the victory over Werder Bremen that secured the title.

With Davies at left-back, David Alaba has moved to centre-back, forming a solid partnership with Jerome Boateng, leaving Hernandez as a very expensive substitute after recovering from injury.
