On June 17, 2020, the Education ministry held talks with Rivatex East Africa's management over mass production of face masks for pupils.

Rivatex, based in Eldoret, is eyeing mass production of face masks for the learning institutions as the government plans to reopen schools in September.

The firm's managing director, Thomas Kipkurgat, said they can produce 40,000 masks during the day and another 40,000 at night.

Prof Kipkurgat stated, 'I can say we are prepared for mass production. We can produce 40,000 masks during daytime and another 40,000 at night.'

He added, 'We presented samples to the Ministry of Education for the primary, secondary and university levels...We are well equipped as a firm for mass production to help the government fulfil its mandate.'

As part of their efforts, Rivatex had already donated face masks to the police officers in Uasin-Gishu, with Moi University donating 3,000 face masks to over 1,400 police officers.
